How to get here?

From Cubao, ride the JAC Liner bus straight to Mauban. Fare is Php277 and Php220 if you are a student, just don’t forget to bring your ID. There’s a Mercury drug store near the terminal where you can buy stuffs needed for the trip like sunblock, alcohol, wet wipes, chips and canned goods. In Mauban, ride a tricycle going to Mauban Port for Php10 per person.

Upon arriving in Mauban Port, register in the tourism office, pay for the environmental fee of Php50 per person, and ride a passenger boat to Cagbalete Island. There are 2 types of passenger boats waiting for you there, the Salvatore cost Php100 while the Neneng is Php70 per person. There’s a regular schedule of public boats to Cagbalete Island; however, waiting time varies depending on the number of tourists. On low season, they can limit the trips to two/day. On peak season, waiting time for boat can reach up to 3 hours. Alternatively, you may rent a private boat directly to your resort for Php3500, good for 8-10 people.

All the resorts are just a walking distance from the port in Cagbalete and the best one so far is the Pansacola Beach Resort. They have the widest sandbar surrounded by a crystal blue water. Also their rates are very affordable for those who are in a budget starting with Php300 per night. Inclusions in that price are the camping fee, entrance fee, overall corkage and a tent rental good for 2-3 people, but if you bring your own tent, you just have to pay for the camping fee of Php250 per head. They also offer nipa huts to stay with and their bathrooms are amazingly clean.

Grilling and cooking your own food is available in all resorts. There are also sari-sari stores where you can buy snacks, drinks and light meals. Other resorts offer packed meals upon prior notice.

Going back:

There is a public ferry from Sabang Port at 7:00 am and 1:00 pm. Make sure to be at the port earlier to avoid to be left by boats. Jac Liner bus schedule from Mauban, Quezon to Cubao is 2:00 pm. There’s also a van going to Lucena City. Last trip of van or bus going to Lucena city is 5:30 pm. Van fare is Php60. After an hour, you will arrive at Lucena Grand Terminal. Then take a bus going to LRT Buendia going back home. Bus fare from Lucena to Buendia is Php209.

  1. Avoid peak season if you can. The port, boats, beach and resorts get easily full. Otherwise, book your accommodations beforehand and prepare to wait in Mauban Port for the public ferry.
  2. It’s better to bring your own food and water because the ones that they are selling there are a bit pricey.
